The 60s came back recently as Museums of Niagara Association (MONA) held a First Fridays Niagara event with a 60s Shindig on the grounds of Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum.
First Fridays, now in its second year, is a series of events presented by MONA in partnership with seven Niagara Museums.
The events mix the Smokin’ Buddha’s signature food-truck fare, drinks and live entertainment alongside the rich historical spaces and collections of Niagara’s museums in order to transform museum spaces into a vibrant hub for social activity for local adults aged 19-35.
Last year, it attracted more than 400 local adults to its first four First Fridays events at museums in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Port Colborne and Niagara-on the-Lake.
The events, held on the first Friday of each month, showcase the unique collections, heritage and flair of their respective museums.
In 2015, activities ranged from swing dancing, live caricature drawings, a bootlegger ball, a lock party along the Welland canal and even a moustache bash in support of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Movember Campaign.
